Indie

I am the biggest in our heard, but don’t let that scare you I am big and cuddly, I joined this heard as a 3-year-old and I am now 16. My first person was a 10-year-old young girl. We learned to ride together; we had lots of fun learning new skills together. We had adventures at the beach, I love going in the water and getting all wet. Other times we would go trail riding jumping and just hanging out in the paddock.

I am a very good listener and have heard so many stories from the humans that love me, I love meeting new people and can’t wait to hear your stories.

Arnie

I joined this heard as a 6-year-old, life before I came here had some interesting adventures, I experienced some wonderful humans in my early years. Then when I arrived here, I knew I was here for life. I have now been here for about 8 human years. Here I get to be my cheeky self, I like to explore things, I enjoy playing with my mates and I love food. Sometimes I go for rides but mostly I just get to enjoy life and be myself. I get a bit excited sometimes and dance around but mostly love to cuddle and play.

Mal

I am the oldest of our heard, I adopted my person when I was 3 years old, I am now 27 human years old. I am now retired but, in my youth, I could be quite energetic when being ridden. I liked to dance and be a bit cheeky with my human when we went out riding. I have seen so many things; I have been to competitions the beach and to shows. Now life is a bit more relaxed, I love cuddles being groomed and hanging out with my herd and humans.

Duke

I have recently re-joined this heard as I have been visiting other humans for a couple of years. I am the smallest in the heard but don’t let that fool you I have a big personality; with my other family I went on adventures in the float to competitions as a friend to the horse being ridden and got lots of cuddles treats and scratches. I learned some pretty cool tricks too. I like to hang out with people and play with my friends.

Buttons

I was born in the wild, I’m what the humans call a brumby.

I adopted my human when I was about 1 year old, this is when I would normally leave my family herd.

I lived with dogs and humans as I learned more about the world.

I have been teaching young kids to ride for a couple of years now and I still love to hang out with everyone.

Sometimes I live at the riding school and sometimes I live with my human at home I get the best of both worlds.

I love to get cuddles and scratches and can’t wait to meet you.

Carmello

I came into this herd as a baby I was adopted to be a friend to Mal. I am not a horse; I am a donkey. I am a protector by nature and look after my herd, I like to see everyone safe.

I also like cuddles from humans especially when they scratch my ears. I like to talk in my language very loudly when it’s dinner time just in case the humans have forgotten.

I am currently with another family being a big brother to a young horse, but I will be coming home soon where I can play with you all.

Isis Wheelahan

Social Worker

EAP facilitator

I have had a love for horses for as long as I can remember. I was lucky enough to be blessed with my first equine partner at the age of 10. Following on from this I partnered with many different equine partners.

This led me to becoming a coach through Australian Horse Riding Centre (AHRC).

Post study I worked in multiple riding centres across Qld & Northern NSW

including Riding for the Disabled (RDA).

I then became a trainer and assessor for AHRC and RDA sharing my passion with other coaches.

Over those many years of coaching it became evident that my understanding of my equine partners exceeded

my knowledge of my human clients, & their needs.

This led me to study a degree in social work.

After working in that field for several years I was drawn back into the equine world.

I studied with the Equine Psychotherapy Institute.

Drawing together my years of coaching and social work.

Currently I am actively involved with my local pony club.

Coaching individuals and offering Equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP).

Anita Dawson

My passion for horses started very young. When I was 8 years old my dad bought me my first horse. Little did he know it would become a life long passion.

I spent several years riding and exploring with my equine partners, attending pony club, mustering and pleasure riding.

Over the years horses and their healing presence have played a big part in my life.

Helping me and my family through various life challengers and tribulations.

Having experienced all this I decided to study with the Equine Psychotherapy institute gaining knowledge to help others learn from the wonderful healing that our equine partners can provide.

I am still actively involved with our lovely equine herd, often enjoying time spent in their company.

I am a lover of all animals from snakes to birds, dogs and horses. Here at HALLP I offer Equine Assisted Learning.
